Butja genom journalistiken : En tematisk analys om hur New York Times och Dagens Nyheter gestaltar ockupationen av Butja efter Rysslands tillbakadragande. 

Sammanfattning: The 3rd of April 2022, after Russian troops withdrew from the town of Bucha in Ukraine after a month of occupation. In the light of the retreat the world was shocked by the pictures that came from the war-torn town where dozens of dead civilians were laying on the streets with their hands tied behind their backs and bullet wounds in their heads. This study will discuss and analyse how the newspapers Dagens Nyheter (DN, Sweden) and New York Times (NYT, USA) framed the massacre in their respective outlets through a thematic analysis of 42 articles published between April 3rd and 30th, 2022, the study identified similarities and differences in how the newspapers reported on the events in Bucha. One of the major differences between the two newspapers was their focus on the victims versus the perpetrator. While NYT directed great focus on who was responsible for the killing of the civilians in Bucha, DN gave a greater focus on the victims themselves. Additionally, the study found that NYT depicted Europe as fragmented in the political spectrum, including what sanctions to apply and what the next move should be regarding Russia and the events in Bucha. In contrast, DN did not show the fragmented Europe as NYT did. Despite these differences, the two newspapers were overall quite similar in their reporting on the events in Bucha. However, the study's results highlighted the impact of the newspapers' geographical and cultural positions on their tone and framing of the news. This emphasized the importance of understanding how different western news outlets operate in relation to their respective countries' standards of journalism. In conclusion, the study revealed how newspapers can report on the same event in different ways based on their geographical and cultural positions. While the overall reporting on the events in Bucha was similar between DN and NYT, there were differences in tone and framing that shed light on the newspapers' perspectives and priorities.
