The paper has analysed the government's statement of foreign policies from 2012 to 2023 and interviewed at least one member of the Parliament from each parliamentary party to understand where the party stands on the issue of defending democracy. Building on Springett (2013) and Olsen (2003), a distinction between narratorial unreliability and uncertainty is proposed to denote whether a narrator explicitly signals an awareness of their fallible narration. Through conducting a qualitative content analysis as the research method and applying Goffman’s dramaturgy theory as the theoretical framework to analyse every Ko and Ting’s Instagram posting in the duration of the 6 months before the 2018 Taipei mayoral election, this thesis probes into Ko and Ting’s performance on the front-stage Instagram.
