    Sammanfattning : In this paper, I study the bodies in Mare Kandre’s two novels Bestiarium (1999) and Xavier (2002), with the help of Mikhail Bakhtin’s theories of the grotesque. I examine the worldview that is portrayed in the novels – focusing on the attitude towards death – and seek answers to the following questions: how do the human bodies look and how do they relate to their surroundings? What does the way they are portrayed say about the world the novels portray? And what role does laughter play in the novels? I also examine the similarity between a grotesque body, and a gothic monster. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : This thesis attempts to form a definition of the concept “ero-guro-nansensu” which refers to a cultural movement in Japan during the early 20th century that explored the erotic, grotesque and nonsensical. It will use the definition to analyze three Japanese horror films made long after the movement’s supposed end, to determine if it is still relevant and useful for studies of current Japanese culture.     Sammanfattning : The monumental sculpture group The Fantastic Paradise (Le Paradis Fantastique, 1967), a collaboration between the artists Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely, was donated to Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Sweden and installed by the water on the island Skeppsholmen in 1971. This was followed by a conflict that lasted 16 years centered around the relationship between the sculptures and the surroundings, in which The Fantastic Paradise was perceived by some as both grotesque and obscene, as well as highly unsuitable in relation to the historical environment.
