Trädgården vid Hönsäter slott. Historia, nutid och framtid

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för kulturvård

Sammanfattning: Hönsäter Castle’s history goes back to the 12th century but very little is known about the garden and its early history. The castle’s own archives are gone and the sources in previous studies have therefore been limited. The garden has been neglected for a long time, there are no flowers or flowerbeds and there are no plans to reconstruct or develop the garden. The purpose of my study has been to find out more about the garden’s history through searching in archives, to compose my findings and to evaluate the garden’s current status. Literature studies have contributed to the understanding of how the gentry’s gardens looked in a historical perspective. It has also offered insight into how one should go about a reconstruction of the garden and which aspects are important to consider. The result has been used as the foundation for an evaluation of the cultural-historical values in the garden as well as a suggestion for which measures should be taken in order to re-create certain historical elements in the garden. The study has shown how important the historical studies and sources are and it has also pointed out some important aspects to consider when planning and budgeting a reconstruction of a historical garden.
