Sammanfattning: In the district of Hyllie in Malmö, Granitor Properties are building a new block called Embassy of Sharing, which is designed focusing on Agenda 2030. Within the block, the city of Malmö is planning to open a new municipal branch library. The library is expected to collaborate with Granitor Properties and be a part of the sharing economy within the block. The purpose of our thesis is to contribute to the understanding of how expectations regarding ecological sustainability and green libraries affect the upcoming Library of Hyllie. We examine whether the library can be considered a green and sustainable library and how it is affected by the expectations of stakeholders regarding sustainability. According to Agenda 2030, the dimensions of sustainability are interconnected and all of them must be considered and in equal measures. Our study, however, focuses on ecological sustainability as it is lacking in earlier research. Our research adopts a qualitative approach, conducting semi-structured interviews with key people representing the Library of Hyllie and Granitor Properties. In addition to the interviews, we collected policy documents to analyze established visions for the library and Embassy of Sharing. Our material was then analyzed thematically. Two theories were applied. The sustainability model helped us analyze if the library can be considered a green library. Through the application of various concepts within institutional theory we looked at the impact of the stakeholders as well as current trends and ideals regarding sustainability shaping the visions for the library of Hyllie. Our analysis shows that there are aspects of the library that makes it a potentially green library regarding the building and proposed practices. The library finds inspiration in established green libraries but as the library is in an early phase of development the end result remains unclear. The library is affected by stakeholders from two organizational fields: the library field and a city planning field. Given that the library is interconnected with the Embassy of Sharing, it is affected by the regulations and demands stipulated by Granitor and the city of Malmö where emphasis is placed on ecological sustainability. Within the library field, the municipal department of culture has the greatest impact and its focus lies on social sustainability. Thereby, two competing logics can be discerned. The library of Hyllie is mainly focused on social sustainability but it cannot “evade” ecological sustainability due to being a part of the Embassy of Sharing. Creating temporal flexibility within the organization can be seen as a means to accomplish both social and ecological sustainability.
