Sammanfattning: This Master of Science thesis is conducted at the faculty Integrated Product Development at the Royal Institute of Technology and in cooperation with EssNet Interactive AB, both situated in Stockholm. In the report the final results and the road to get there is described as well as the design process and how the process is used to obtain the goal of this thesis. The author of this thesis has developed the design and the function of an interactive video terminal (IVT) and by using semantics created an encouraging gaming design. The projects purpose was to change the anonymous withheld shape and produce an experience of gaming machine that has been absent. The work was aimed to answer the question: How does one proceed to develop the IVT and by using semantics creating an understanding of gaming machine? In general the author wants to show that small changes, with the help of design and its signals, can completely change the overall picture of a product. Different parts like buttons, light/sound settings, furniture, colour and structure has been worked out thoroughly but the main task has been to create an overall impression of the IVT. At a first sight an observer should directly understand that this is a gaming machine. The project has resulted in a cocky, appealing and gaming requesting product which melts in into the existing gaming environment but “makes room”. A product where design and function is the focus. There are also thoughts around design and its meaning, the original machine with its pros and cons, how the work progressed and the outlining for future developments in the thesis. The future expectation is that this work can be the ground and an inspirational source for further development. Maybe this work can be the starting-point towards future ventures on the meaning of design at gaming machines and result in an improved gaming experience to the user.
