Sammanfattning: The study examines exit interviews in the IT industry for voluntary leave. It explores how companies handle the information from these interviews and their perceived value. The study involved qualitative semi-structured interviews with nine individuals who had either conducted exit interviews or possesses extensive knowledge and understanding of the process. The interviews were recorded, transcribed, and thematically analyzed. Findings indicate that exit interviews are voluntary and often follow a structured approach. Their purpose is to identify areas for improvement within the organization, but the validity and transparency of the process can be questioned. Both formal and informal interviews are used, and information management varies from qualitative analysis to aggregated statistical key figures. Although the interviews can be challenging for the interviewer, the results suggest that they generate value for both the individual and the organization. Our conclusion suggests that company size may have an influence on the potential positive outcomes of exit interviews. Differences in resources between organizations can impact the effectiveness of information management in the offboarding process. When resources such as workforce and size are available, exit interviews can ensure anonymity and increase transparency. However, when resources in terms of time or standardized processes exist, organizations can analyze and utilize information more thoroughly. Our study confirms the questioned validity of exit interviews, but factors like transparency, standardization, and interviewer competence can strengthen it. Exit interviews can provide deeper insights and a positive reputation of the organization in the job market.
