  1. 1. Cultivating oleaginous yeast on spent mushroom substrate and logging residues hydrolysate : an assessment of yeast growth on side product substrates from the food, agriculture, and forestry industry

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Department of Molecular Sciences

    Författare :Robin Lukic; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Lignocellulose; side products; oleaginous yeast; yeast oil; microtiter plate system; redox indicator; yeast growth; spent mushroom substrate hydrolysate; logging residues hydrolysate;

    Sammanfattning : There is an interest in finding alternatives to vegetable oils because of negative environmental impact. Many green sectors generate an abundant amount of side products that are inedible and consist in large of lignocellulose rich materials. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Fatty acid composition in Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus) fed with red yeast biomass : a comparison between large and small specimens

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Department of Molecular Sciences

    Författare :Sofia Jacobsson; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Fatty acid composition; lipid content; oleaginous yeast; Arctic char Salvelinus alpinus ; aquaculture;

    Sammanfattning : Oleaginous yeast has shown to be a promising alternative to replace vegetable oils in fish feed. A problem in aquaculture is that different growth rates can be observed among farm-raised fish, supressing the productions full potential. When different growth rates are observed, it can be questioned if the fish assimilate the feed to the same extent. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Characterization and optimization of Rhodosporidium toruloides for production of lipids

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Kemiteknik (CI)

    Författare :Niharika Singh; [2021]
    Nyckelord :chemical engineering; oily yeasts; lipids; nitrogen limitation; Technology and Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Oleaginous microorganisms provide an opportunity to produce oils without the use of arable land for cultivation of oil-containing plants. Oleaginous microorganisms are also capable of storing products of pharmaceutical interest alongside storing polymers, which could open new opportunities in the bioplastic industry. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Lipid content and profile of Rhodotorula toruloides during fermentation

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Department of Molecular Sciences

    Författare :Khairul Kibria; [2021]
    Nyckelord :Rhodotorula toruloides; fatty acids; lipid class; triglycerides; phospholipid; gas chromatography;

    Sammanfattning : Oleaginous yeast such as Rhodotorula toruloides is a promising organism for production of lipids from lignocellulosic substrates. Microbial lipids have potential applications in energy, food, feed and pharmaceutical industry, because most of the lipids are triglycerides with long chain fatty acids that are comparable to typical vegetable oils and can be obtained without arable land requirement. 5. 5. Engineering Rhodosporidium toruloides for the production of polyhydroxybutyrate

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Teknisk mikrobiologi

    Författare :Tova Lindh; [2021]
    Nyckelord :Applied microbiology; Bioplastics; Rhodosporidium toruloides; Polyhydroxybutyrate; Non-conventional yeast; Oleaginous yeast; Biology and Life Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The increased use of plastics has become an environmental problem where plastics, due to the slow degradation, accumulate in the oceans and landfills. Although plastics are a very cheap and useful material with desirable properties and a wide variety of applications, they are primarily made from petroleum-based resources which are non-renewable and of fossil origin.
