Sammanfattning: The way education and learning are structured is constantly evolving. Today, education is taking on a more digital approach, with books, paper, and pen being phased out. This is largely due to technological advancements, which open up new ways of thinking about how education can be delivered. A new focus in education has been to involve students on an emotional level in order to increase their engagement and facilitate enhanced learning. One way this can be achieved is through the use of serious games, which are games that are designed with the purpose of teaching. Serious games offer a promising alternative for education, as they have good compatibility with technological advancements. The digitalization of games presents new opportunities in this regard. This work is divided into two parts. The first part investigates how serious games can be used to educate people on risk management, while the second part examines how such games are utilized in the education of emergency services personnel in Sweden. To investigate the use of serious games for risk management, a scoping-study was conducted. The study aimed to provide an overview of the general use of games in risk management. For the second part of the work, interviews were conducted with individuals who educate emergency services personnel, and tips and sources were gathered from these interviews. The results of the study show that serious games are indeed being used for risk management, in many different forms and with varying applications. For example, some games are designed for single play, while others are intended for group participation. Additionally, the focus of the games can vary depending on what needs to be trained. Generally, games tend to revolve around natural disasters and are used to help involved parties come to compromises and solutions that satisfy all parties. The use of serious games for emergency services personnel education varies depending on the type of education being offered. Interviewees discussed two games that are primarily used for training emergency response leaders, while the use of games in the training of firefighters is less common. However, there is interest in games that can provide firefighters with repetitive training exercises.
