Sammanfattning: This paper aims to study how the EU-programme Horizon 2020 has impacted the GDP of the EU member states from its implementation in 2014 through 2020. Horizon 2020 was created to spur European research and innovation with the aim of increasing EU member states’ GDPs, and thus the cumulative GDP of the EU. Prior research has generally shown EU-programmes to have had a positive impact on its recipients GDPs, even if some researchers have found evidence to the contrary in certain scenarios. Operating to test the expectation that Horizon 2020 had an impact on EU GDP, a fixed-effects regression model was used to regress GDP on Horizon-payouts. Using data compiled from EU member states over the 2014-2020 time period, a 1 percent increase in Horizon-payouts increased GDP by 0,02 percent. Thus, the regression output, expressed that increased EU funding has a positive impact on GDP.
