Sammanfattning: Former studies shows that teachers and students often experience lyric poetry as complicated and inaccessible. Simultaneously, there are multiple studies that shows the benefits of learning about lyric poetry, and the importance of working with the fundamental values of the school system. This study aims to offer an alternative to the traditional teaching of poetry through a so called verse novel (prosalyrik) which would meet the fundamental values of said school system through reading and literature. By using a thematic analysis constructed by Harry Martinsons Aniara (1956) and Linnéa Axelssons Ædnan (2018) themes regarding gender and ecocriticism were found. These themes could be linked to the fundamental values of the school system and used in the teaching of poetry. Verse novels, with its specific affordance, have been shown to favour dyslexic students as well as those who struggle with reading. This study also gives insight into the teaching practices of teachers who incorporates verse novels in their teaching. Verse novel allows teachers to use their time more efficiently to cover more of the curriculum content.
