När kraven överstiger resurserna : En kvalitativ studie om upplevelsen av Covid-19 och dess påverkan på omsorgsgivares arbetsmotivation

Sammanfattning: The following study aims to investigate how Covid-19 has a affected nurses´ motivation to work in elderly care in south of Sweden. Further on, it also aims to study nurses´ experience of working during a pandemic and with restrictions. To fulfill the purpose of this paper, a qualitative research method was used, followed by semi-structured interviews. A total of four interviews were conducted with seven respondents in total, who worked in one communal residence. The empirical material was examined with a hermeneutic approach and a thematic analysis. The result was analyzed with Maslow´s behavior theory and the requirements-control-support model. In addition, the result showed that Covid-19 has had a negative impact on nurses work motivation. However, the main cause that kept them motivated are the social support they´ve received from one another during the pandemic. The team spirit and comfort they´ve received in their working group has kept them motivated. The result also shows that the amount of work has increased, which gives them far less time to spend with the elders, and therefore they believe that the quality of the care has decreased.
