Sammanfattning: Swedish municipalities have changed more or less continuously for a long time and in many different ways. This study has investigated the period 1935-1949 as it was an important time for the changed role of municipalities in society with the increased role of the Social Democrats for the municipal activities at this time. To get a glimpse of this development, a survey of Väse municipality has been carried out as a sample showing the municipal expansion during this time. A number of research work from other researchers has been dealt with in the paper and they have provided an insight into how Väse municipality was organized and expanded during the period in question, as well as how the debate and development on the more central level looked. Väse municipality was during this time a separate municipality east of Karlstad. The investigation has concluded that in the municipality of Väse, the municipality's welfare commitments expanded almost three times over, in a purely budgetary manner over a 15-year period. In addition to the establishment of a local crisistimecouncil, the town was not in any way affected negatively from the Second World War, as the survey has been able to demonstrate which lasted for some of this period. The survey has for the most part attempted to explain and map the municipal expansion during the treated period. The study concluded that during the period for the study the expansion was due to the fact that the Social Democrats became more active during the 40s in pushing social reforms to the municipal level.
