Sammanfattning: Since the beginning of the 20th century, there have been requirements in the Swedish law that family-foster homes must be investigated, but despite this, there seems to be a demand today for a comprehensive investigation method that must be the same for all the country's social offices. The social services are the authority in Sweden that bears the ultimate responsibility for family-foster home placements and thus family home investigations. Surveys show that there are shortcomings in the investigations which in turn increase the risks for children who are placed in foster care to be in danger. The purpose is to examine the family home secretary's experiences of the investigation methods used in the investigation of prospective family home parents. Furthermore, the purpose of the survey is to investigate from the social workers' perspective which investigative methods contribute to sustainable placements and how a family home placement can affect the child. Our study is based on eight semi-structured interviews of family home secretaries whose main tasks are to recruit, investigate and document family homes. During our collection of materials, we experience that there are difficulties for recruitment and that the complex positions are required in an extension that requires higher demands on the family home secretaries. It is clear that all family home secretaries use BRA-fam and Nya Kälvesten as methods in their investigations, where BRA-fam is an initial assessment manual and Nya Kälvesten is an in-depth interview. BRA-fam is evidence-based while Nya Kälvesten is not evidence-based but rather built on evidence. Keywords: Family home placement, mental health, foster care, mental health, foster care effect
