Sammanfattning: Inequalities in academia is a well-studied subject where multiple studies show that men and women have different experiences and opportunities. Most of the studies are conducted in countries like the US, UK and countries in the developing world and fewer are focused on a Scandinavian context. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine men and women’s experiences regarding career development at the School of Business, Economics and Law at Gothenburg University. The study aims to contribute to the research area by conducting research in a Swedish context where there are fewer gender differences compared to other countries. This was done by conducting interviews with a doctor as well as multiple associate professors, and professors where we gathered information about their experiences regarding career opportunities. After analyzing the data, we found that both men and women have similar experiences where both criticize the academia’s meritocratic system and its focus onquantitative criteria in promotion processes and the lack of formalized support from the management. The study also shows that network and academic housework have an impact on people's career development, where it mostly negatively impacts women.
