Sammanfattning: How do countries really transition from autocracy to democracy? In the case of Mongolia, the country underwent a democratic revolution in the end of the 1980s and early stages of the 90s. The country implemented multi-party elections and civil rights, even though the communist party stayed in power following the first democratic election in 1990. The revolution combined a change of institutional design in the political system, a well organized civil society and the timely collapse of the Soviet union. These different subjects will be studied further to really understand how Mongolia transitioned from repressive autocracy to democracy.
