Alla ”kvinnor” är svenska, alla ”invandrare” är män - En analys av kollektiva identiteter i 2016 års Almedalstal

Sammanfattning: The main purpose of this thesis is to examine how Swedish party leaders from the three biggest parties talk about the collective identities “women” and “immigrants” in their 2016 speeches from “Almedalsveckan”, the main political event in Sweden. By relating and contrasting these two groupings towards each other, I will also scrutinise whether an exclusion of “immigrant women” takes place. My analysis will be based on the discourse theory of Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe and on postcolonial feminism, mainly the work of Chandra Talpade Mohanty and bell hooks. After analysing the speeches, it becomes clear to see that the way the party leaders talk about these two collective identities are rather oversimplified and adverse. Despite deriving from different parties and different ideologies, the party leaders share a somewhat similar way of talking about both “women” and “migrants” even though there are some major differences as well. It becomes evident that “migrant women” are the more or less stuck between the two collective identities “women” and “immigrants”, exclusion does take place.
