Sammanfattning: The latest European Union directive pressures the member states to increase existing building energy efficiency. Calculations of building energy has in Sweden a dependency of normalized user behaviour data, which has reflected the average use based on existing data. Changes increase the demand for better background data on usage of dwellings, as well as a method for calculating the energy use due to window airing. Therefore, this thesis aimed to evaluate simulation as a method. The evaluation was focused to description of one part of dwellers airing behaviour, directed against recreation of window airing airflow. With recreation of the building and measurements, it was possible to simulate different models for window opening areas. By comparison of the simulated results against measurements in each airing case, it was possible to show differences concerning airflow and temperature variations. The main cause was not answered, however it was discussed that it could have been dependent on mixture differences. If the simulation software is used to perform energy calculations of airing with side-hung windows, the results of this thesis have shown that it leads to underestimation of airflow.
