Sammanfattning: The medial coverage as well as political interest of criminal rates in Sweden has increased over the years, especially regarding organized crime. Therefore this study aims to investigate how the discourse within criminal politics in Sweden has evolved during the last two terms. It also aims to compare the results with power relations between the state and the citizens democratic fundamental rights, which are defined by the World Justice Project. The theoretical standpoint is Michel Foucault’s concept of governmentality. This is investigated by discourse analysis of the government declarations from 2019 and 2022 and their associated cooperation agreements. The results shows that there are different underlying connotations between the years regarding when speaking about crime and how to prevent and discipline it. There is a discussion regarding the importance of defending the democratic and Swedish values, however there is no discussion regarding the democratic implications that might follow the proposed reforms.
