  1. 1. Investigation of the role of insulin receptor genes in wing polyphenism using gene knockdown and differential gene expression analysis in the non-model organism Gerris buenoi

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för ekologi och genetik

    Författare :Sofia Iggström; [2019]
    Nyckelord :Phenotypic plasticity; RNAi; RT-qPCR; wing polyphenism; water striders;

    Sammanfattning : Wing polyphenism is a type of phenotypic plasticity present in several insect species whereby a genotype have the ability to develop alternative wing morphs when exposed to different environmental cues. One organism demonstrating a clear case of wing polyphenism is the water strider species, Gerris buenoi, which develop long- or short wings depending on exposure to different photoperiods (the time the organism is exposed to light during a 24 h period). 2. 2. The Effects of Probiotics on High Sugar-Induced Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Symptoms in Drosophila melanogaster

    Kandidat-uppsats, Högskolan i Skövde/Institutionen för hälsa och lärande

    Författare :Yasser Al-Ghamdi; [2019]
    Nyckelord :Diabetes; Biomedicine; PEPCK; FOXO; Fbp; Hex-t1; Zw; Drosophila; Melanogaster; Longevity; Probiotics;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by the rise of fasting plasma glucose from its normal range (≥125mg/dl). It is marked by insufficient production of insulin from pancreatic β-cells as a result of failed compensation due to insulin resistance. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Polycystic ovary syndrome : A Drosophila Melanogaster Melanogaster disease model induced by DHT and/or high sugar diet

    Kandidat-uppsats, Högskolan i Skövde/Institutionen för hälsa och lärande

    Författare :Andreas Mlekov Andersson; [2019]
    Nyckelord :Polycystic ovary syndrome; PCOS; DHT; high sugar diet; drosophila melanogaster;

    Sammanfattning : Polycystic ovary syndrome is an endocrine disorder with symptoms of hyperandrogenism, insulin-resistance and anovulation in women which creates a disposition for other disorders, like Type 2 Diabetes. Drosophila Melanogaster flies have short generation, low cost-management and share several signaling pathways with humans and are therefore an excellent tools to study disease aetiology – yet no such model exists for PCOS.
