Säkerhet för pilot vid brand i stridsflygplan av modell Viggen och Gripen

Sammanfattning: The purpose of the report is to evaluate pilot safety in combat aircraft’s, of type JA 37 Viggen and type JAS 39 Gripen, exposed to the worst scenario of fire. Focus is on the performance of the canopy of the cockpit. The method used involves small-scale laboratory tests as well as a full-scale test with a Viggen in a pool fire. The conclusion is that the pilot in a Viggen has to be evacuated within 90 seconds from ignition of the pool. The time available for evacuation of the pilot from a Viggen exceeds the corresponding time for a Gripen.
