Uppfattning om information avseende kost och fysisk aktivitet vid adjuvant behandling mot bröstcancer

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Institutionen för folkhälso- och vårdvetenskap

Sammanfattning: Aim: To describe perceptions about written and verbal information regarding diet and physical activity in women with breast cancer and to study possible differences between ages and perception. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted and consisted of 57 women with breast cancer stages I-III who started adjuvant chemotherapy within a year (2007-2008). A questionnaire, regarding their perceptions about the written and verbal information they had received about diet and physical activity, was responded to three months following treatment completion. Between 67-93 % of the participants responded to the questions. The answers was analyzed with descriptive statistics and Mann Whitney U-test. Results: Regarding perceptions of the written information the median were “totally agree” for every item and between “agree to some extend” and “agree largely” for the verbal. There were no significant differences (>0.05) between the age groups. The median differed in some of the items; young women rated the written information somewhat better than older women (>50 years). The outcome was inversely regarding the verbal. Conclusion: Perceptions regarding the written information were generally positive whereas the verbal was rated slightly lower. Some numerical differences were detected between the age groups. Based on the results it would be desirable if nurses would receive more education on how best to convey information.
