Sammanfattning: Since the end of the Second World War planning has prioritised the usage of the car. This has led to car dependency with negative effects such as high carbon emissions. Today, planning for more sustainable means of transportation is becoming central in Sweden. One strategy involves increasing bicycle usage. The aim of this thesis is to study how everyday life for parents of small children is constrained by using the bicycle for commuting. With this in mind, this thesis analyses a municipal bicycle plan. The theory of time geography in combination with earlier research creates the theoretical framework. A case study of Lomma municipality is conducted. Statistics, interviews and a documentary analysis are the main methods and materials used. The results show that the car is a relief for parents with young children. Commuting is affected by restrictions in time and space. The complexity of everyday life determines the choice of the traveling method at a household level. In addition, travel behaviour is a result from the car being seen as the norm in society. Planning therefore needs to take into account the personal constraints and barriers households are facing in their everyday travel.
