Vilka var ni? : En kollektivbiografi över norrbottningarna som emigrerade till Australien 1860-1940

Sammanfattning: This study examines the emigration to Australia from Norrbotten, Sweden, and the remigration from Australia to Norrbotten between 1860 and 1940. By using prosopography, the emigrants' gender, age, social class and marital status are examined. The theoretical framework for this study is based on these aspects but also include the theory on push- and pull factors. The results show that the number of emigrants from Norrbotten to Australia were few compared to other migrant streams and that even fewer chose to remigrate. The gender distribution show that the majority of emigrants were male. The typical emigrant was an unmarried man in his middle age who were a part of the middle class. The emigration originated from the coast and its most intensive period corresponds with the discovery of gold deposits in Australia.
