Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Socialhögskolan

Sammanfattning: Patients under the jurisdiction of the Scania Region of Sweden have since 2014 had the ability to choose their care provider regarding opioid substitution treatment, OST. This ability to choose has come from the advancements of the New Public Management, NPM, within Swedish health care. The goal of which has been to increase the availability of OST, as well as to strengthen the patient's autonomy with regards to the treatment. Consequently, it has been argued that the higher availability and marketization of OST could lead to non-serious care providers as well as higher amounts of unwarranted patients. The goal of this study has been to qualitatively examine active patients' experiences of- and wellbeing with regards to their OST, as well as their perception of the treatment´s change in relation to the advancements of the NPM. The purpose has been to further complement the existing research within the field, as well as to inspire further discussion and research. We have conducted seven semi-structured interviews with active OST patients and analyzed the results based on the theory behind the expected effects of NPM as well as Antonovsky´s (1991) theory of Sense of coherence. The main findings include some confirmation regarding the consequences of NPM, as well as an interpretation of an improved well-being among the patients.
