Sammanfattning: Knowledge intensive companies need to maintain a high level of competence amongtheir employees. Consultant based organizations find this difficult, mainly because of tworeasons; the majority of their staff is geographically distributed and has a very tight timeschedule. We consider net-based competence development as a possible solution to theseproblems.To initiate and conduct net-based competence development in groups, awareness of thecritical factors for success in the e-learning project is essential. The main purpose of thismaster thesis is to: Increase the knowledge concerning how to initiate and conduct net-based competencedevelopment in groups.We studied a competence development program at Guide Datakonsult (laterGuide/FramFab) for eight months. During this program 19 participating consultantsused LearnLoop, a web-based third generation tool for education. We supported thecourse tutors in designing the program. The participants' activities were studied regardingcontent and frequency of use and in the end of the study we interviewed the members aswell as the course tutors.Our study resulted in four key factors for group e-learning. These are: learningmethodology, course purpose and goal, steering and group composition anddevelopment. These factors are summarized in a matrix intended to support initiatorsand leaders of similar projects: The matrix is the Key to e-learning.
