Sammanfattning: In this study, I analyse the reporting on brexit by the two biggest Swedish newspapers, Dagens Nyheter and Svenska Dagbladet, using a discourse analysis called the WPR-approach. Its aim is to investigate how these newspapers problematises brexit, to shed light on what problem representations are constructed, how they relate to each other and what the underlying assumptions of these problems are and what consequences they might cause. My findings suggest that both newspapers principally had a negative outlook on brexit, and especially the possibility of a hard brexit, as they constructed multiple problems and no benefits in relation to it. My findings also show that most of the problems were expressed in economic and democratic terms, often by citing politicians or with reference to economic institutions. Brexit was constantly expressed as a crash or chock ("krasch") and associated with great uncertainty and approaching chaos. Moreover, the national filter of Svenska Dagbladet was reflected in their reporting on the challenges for Swedish SMEs as a result of this uncertainty on the market, possibly reflecting their conservative liberal perspective.
