Sammanfattning: FACTORS THAT CAN CHART A CRIMINAL CAREER   A QUALITATIVE STUDY ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR, INDIVIDUAL EXPERIENCE, SOCIAL TIES AND FAMILY SITUATION    JASMIN ACHKAR Achkar, Jasmin. Factors that can chart a criminal career. A qualitative study which is aimed to examine what factors that can influence an individual to develop criminal behavior, the individual's experience of this time-period, the social ties, as well as family relationships. Degree project in criminology. Malmö University: Faculty of Health and Society, Department of Criminology, 2023. The study "Factors that can chart a criminal career" aims to find out what can affect an individual developing a criminal career and what the individual's experience is during this period. How and when did the informant begin his criminal career? What did the informant's family situation and social ties look like growing up? To answer the study's questions, interviews have been conducted at KRIS in Malmö with three informants. All the informants are between the ages 49 and 60 years old and have served a sentence in the form of imprisonment during their life. The result of this study is supported by the social bond theory as well as previous research on crime. Since the participants in this study were involved in criminal activities from an early age, the researcher chose to include Travis Hirschi's theory of social bonds. This theoretical choice is considered advantageous as it provides an analytical framework to understand and investigate the social factors that may have influenced the participants' behavior. Hirschi's theory emphasizes the crucial role of social bonds and relationships in explaining criminality, and by applying it, the researcher can identify potential deficiencies or weaknesses in the participants' lives. The findings of this study support the social bond theory and previous research on criminality. This chapter gives the reader a presentation and background to the essay. Then follows the background to what I have chosen to investigate and its purpose, followed by questions and the choice of boundaries.        Keywords: Interviews, crime and criminal career.
