Sammanfattning: Abstract Background: Being pregnant and having diabetes mellitus type 1 requires great knowledge from both the women and the healthcare staff because of the risk for comlications for the mother and the fetus. The women need to maintain as normal blood glucose control as possible before and during pregnancy and it is important that they feel strengthened by healthcare professionals in order to achieve optimal diabetes treatment. Aim: The aim of the study was to describe women's experience of being pregnant while having diabetes mellitus type 1. Method: The study was inductive and have a qualitative approach and is based on six individual interviews.  The data were analyzed by content analysis. Findings: The result revealed that most women described the pregnancy as demanding. The insight that high HbA1c also affected another  individual was considered to be stressful. Overall, all women were satisfied with the care they received during pregnancy, but all of them perceived that the midwife did not have the knowledge about diabetes mellitus type 1 and pregnancy the women required to feel safe during pregnancy and that the cooperation between the care providers wasn’t optimal. But the women felt that the meetings with the midwife was something positive, where the focus was on their pregnancy and the baby and not on their diabetes. Conclusion: The findings in the study was that the collaboration between caregivers can be improved to create a more positive experience of the pregnancy for the woman. The women also requested more information about the perinatal and postnatal period.   KEYWORDS: pregnancy, diabetes mellitus type 1, experience
