Sammanfattning: Author: Karolina Taflin Title: To enlighten the invisible room – Art therapists and their relations to the client. [Translated title] Supervisor: Tabitha Wright Nielsen Assessor: Anna Angelin In art therapy the picture is a way to communicate. This is different from ordinary therapy where the language is the main way of communicating. From a social constructivism viewpoint the reality is always subjective and this subjective reality is shown in the pictures. With support from the art therapist the client understands and becomes aware of his or hers unconscious thoughts and feeling that is being expressed thru the picture. With Foucault’s theories as a tool, this essay examines art therapists in their work with clients. Focus in this is how the power in this relationship looks like. What does the art therapy discourse look like? And how is it expressed in the relation between art therapists and clients? To do this I have interviewed four art therapists about their work. They all work in different areas of the social field, but they all work with clients creating pictures in their therapy sessions.
