Sammanfattning: This study examines the intention of two Swedish mining corporation representatives, Luossavaara-Kiirunavarra Aktiebolag (LKAB) and Boliden AB, regarding indigenous people’s rights in Sweden. The study also investigates whether the mining corporations explicitly state any responsibilities for meeting indigenous peoples’ rights and, if so, how this responsibility is expressed. The study will apply the theory of corporate social responsibility (CSR). Since it can be challenging to determine whether a corporation fulfils its social responsibility, three basic principles based on sustainability, accountability, and transparency, will be used to make some form of assessment. The aforementioned basic principles will be used as an instrument in the study to assess the two mining corporations’ social responsibility in relation to the rights of indigenous and Sámi people. The study will be based on a case study design since it makes it possible to demonstrate this case’s complexity and specific nature. Documents published to the public, such as annual and sustainability reports, policy documents, and other documents, by LKAB and Boliden AB will form the basis for collecting empirical data. From the analysis of these documents, the mining corporations state that they are aware of the negative impact of their activities on the environment and intend to take measures. However, these measures are only vaguely described and are not exemplified. Both companies indicate an intention to maintain and respect Sámi and indigenous peoples’ rights. It is, however, impossible to determine how much or to what degree the mining corporations take their social responsibility. To do so, further and more comprehensive studies would have been required.
