Känslan av tvång: Upplevelsen av tvångsvård ur ett brukarperspektiv

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Socialhögskolan

Sammanfattning: The aim of this study was to investigate patients' experiences of involuntary hospitalization and clients' involuntary treatment of alcohol and drug addiction. Three persons were interviewed by qualitative semi-structured interviews and two internet blogs were analyzed by text analysis. The theory of Goffman's total institution was used for analyzing, as well as the concepts of paternalism and autonomy. The results of this study showed that good response from the professionals was of great importance, and to be treated like a human being, not an object. The feeling of coercion was reduced when the participants felt that they were engaged in their own treatment care, and when they felt like they had control. They also wanted to have the opportunity to choose voluntary care instead of involuntary. All the participants had experiences of professionals who misused their power, and the participants responded to that by taking control of the situation themselves, sometimes by unacceptable actions. Many of the participants felt that forced care is necessary, but that it should be more care rather than compulsion. Some of the participants had experience of colonization after being in compulsive care for a long time. The conclusion of this study showed that the professionals should be more compassionate in compulsory care to improve the stay for the individual. It also showed that the individuals should be more involved in their treatment care, for example by receiving the opportunity to choose voluntary care. Finally, compulsory care is necessary, but should consist of more care rather than coercion. The professionals should also be aware of the risk of colonization when a person stays at an institution for a long time.
