11. Colliding Galaxies in a (Nut)Shell
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionenSammanfattning : Galaxy interactions and mergers are natural recurring events in the current cosmological paradigm, events that often coincide with starbursts and enhanced star formation activity. To understand why that is, one can use idealised (non-cosmological) merger simulations, which provide freedom to recreate specific tidally distorted galaxies, and analysis of the time evolution and underlying physics of the star formation activity at a high spatial resolution. 12. The Metallicity Structure of the Milky Way Halo II : Characterising the distant halo substructure
Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Observationell astrofysikSammanfattning : The Milky Way galaxy, like all spiral galaxies, is surrounded by a roughly spherical distribution of stars called the halo. The halo was largely formed when the galaxy merged with smaller galaxies. LÄS MER
13. Estimating Properties of a Young Pulsar through X-ray Observations - An Investigation of Parameter Dependence
Kandidat-uppsats, KTH/FysikSammanfattning : Studying the properties of newborn neutron stars is a complicated matter since they cannot be directly observed. Neutron stars are born when some massive stars go supernova (SN), where the expelled material from the explosion goes on to shield the young neutron star from our view by absorbing its radiation. 14. Blue Stragglers from Primordial Binary Evolution
Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisationSammanfattning : Blue stragglers were first discovered as hotter and more luminous than the turnoff in the globular cluster M3. Their presence is typically explained by the interplay between stellar collisions and mass transfer in binary systems. In this thesis, I study blue stragglers produced from primordial binary evolution. LÄS MER
15. Gravitational Waves in Bimetric Gravity
Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomiSammanfattning : Understanding the cause of the accelerated expansion of the Universe is one of the most pressing issues in modern cosmology. An alternative to the LambdaCDM-model is bimetric gravity which is an extension of Einstein's theory of general relativity. LÄS MER
