Robust ordförrådsundervisning : -en interventionsstudie i ämnet SO på mellanstadiet

Sammanfattning: The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of robust vocabulary instruction in classroom teaching on the student´s knowledge of word meaning and comprehension of textbook texts. The following two questions were in focus: What effect does a robust vocabulary instruction, applied in regular classroom teaching, have on students' knowledge of the meanings of words, especially students with weak vocabulary? What effect does a robust vocabulary instruction, applied in regular classroom teaching, have on students' reading comprehension of factual texts in the subject social sciences especially students with weak vocabulary? An intervention was carried out in which 27 students in grade 4 and 5 took part. The intervention included six lessons distributed across two weeks. The most important outcome of this study is that robust vocabulary instruction seems to improve all students’ knowledge of the included target words.
