Sammanfattning: Since the end of the world wars and the post cold-war era during the 2Oth century, Mary Kaldor argues that a new phenomenon, New Wars, can be seen across the planet. New Wars differ from Old Wars in it’s structure, where the actors participating in the New Wars are more complex to define. The actors in the New Wars are no longer only state actors, but a mix of international and national, public and non-public actors. The Realist theory in International Relations explains war as phenomenon where states fight each other for power in an anarchic international system. This thesis shows how you cannot analyse the phenomenon New Wars with the Realist theory and explains why it is therefore problematic both agreeing with the Realist theory's conclusions about wars, and Kaldors conclusions about New Wars at the same time. It also shows how it is problematic to only agree with either Realism or Kaldors thoughts. Therefore this thesis comes to the final conclusion that the best way to handle this problem is to agree with some of the conclusions from both sides.
