Sammanfattning: The purpose of the study was to, from a transformative and critical realistic approach, generate knowledge about perspectives of power in psychological treatment. This was examined through interviews with young female psychologists and their thoughts on and how to deal with power in their therapeutic work. Data was collected through nine semi-structured interviews with psychologists based on their clinical experience from psychological treatment with adults. Data was analyzed with a theoretical thematic analysis. The result was conceptualized in three main themes. A major aspect that was found was the importance of the context in which power is played and that the interviewees were helped by reflecting through a norm critical and intersectional point of view when analyzing power in relation to the patient. Gender and age were interpreted as two different factors of power, where age was experienced as a non-privilege in relation to older patients and gender was experienced as a factor eliminating power differences. The study also addressed perspectives on the power of the role as a psychologist. The results suggest that therapeutic techniques to even out power differences such as transparence, was experienced as helpful and necessary, but ought to be combined by an understanding of the responsibility that comes with it. Conclusions drawn from the results stress the importance of an active analysis of power and intersectionality in treatment with patients. In addition, power can be constructed and deconstructed partly in treatment, but also trough a reflexive stance towards the organization and the society in which one work.
