Sammanfattning: As a single mother, you don’t always have the luxury of time for yourself or for your friends. In some cases you don’t even have any support from your family, friends, authorities or just society as a whole. It could get very lonely and draining. As opposed to a two-parent household, the responsibility is yours to carry alone. This study highlights the different struggles of single mothers. Through qualitative interviews with eight single mothers from all over Sweden, we were able to fulfill the aim of the study, which is to analyze the challenges that single mothers may face on a daily basis and how these challenges affect them on an emotional and social level. This study was based on the participating single mothers’ experience, along with supporting theoretical perspectives and previous research. The results showed that single mothers struggle in different ways and aspects of life. Feelings of shame, guilt, sorrow and loneliness are common, and often based on other challenges and struggles that these women are facing daily. Some of these challenges are the struggle of prioritizing and balancing different aspects of their lives, and therefor constantly feeling not good enough. Either their social life, career or children will be neglected to a certain degree, and as a result, it takes a toll on their health. The study then delves into the understanding of the result through an analysis based on different theoretical perspectives and research, which through we were then able to draw a conclusion.
