Sammanfattning: This thesis is a case study of a garden that has been moved from its original place to an open-air museum. It investigates the different factors and problems that can evolve when working with a garden in a new location. I have chosen to do this trough a case study of Petissans yard at Skansen. Petissan was a cafe on Drottninggatan in Stockholm from 1870 to 1907 when it was relocated to Skansen, an open-air museum in Stockholm. The yard of Petissan served as an out door seating and was a lush and green environment next to a garden with big trees. At Skansen today Petissan is still a cafe but the yard is now located on top of a building and there are no trees that shadows it. Which means that the pre-conditions have changed a lot. To be able to make a design proposal for Petissans yard I have investigated historical source material including a drawing of the yard från 1907 and several historical photos of the yard. I have also done an inventory of the yard at Skansen and interviewed people that are using it today. This material has been used to make three different design proposals for the yard. Through that work I have discovered different factors and difficulties one can experience when working with a historical gardens in a new location. This thesis discusses questions about authenticity and conservation of historical gardens versus the use of the yard today and the recent conditions.
