Detta är en Master-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Socialhögskolan

Sammanfattning: This qualitative study aims to investigate the meaning of the smartphone for young people as well as the way young people experience their parents and the staff at schools relating to them using their smartphones. It also investigates young peoples thoughts about restrictions made by their parents and the staff at school and if or in what ways the restrictions may affect the relationship between adults and young people. A total of seven semi-structured interviews with young people in the age of 15 to 18 years were conducted. The interviews were set at their schools. The theoretical framework chosen were Aaron Antonovskys theories about SOC (sence of coherence) and Jürgen Habermas theories about communicative action and life world versus system world. The study shows that the smartphone is very important to the young people. It represents a safety and stability in the young people’s lives. There is a ambivalence between the perception of wishing to manage the smartphone on their own and experiencing gains from adult restrictions. Especially when it comes to the school performances. The adults way of restricting the young people’s smartphone behavior is a topic which leads to several negative emotions from the young people. Like for example irritation, resistance as well as distancing from parents/school staff.
