Sammanfattning: The purpose of this essay is to study the representation of monstrous mummies in British literary fiction from the 1800s. The material used is The mummy (1827), Lot No. 249 (1892), and Pharos the egyptian (1899). A narrative analysis is the method used in the essay to explore the chosen material. The focus has been on how the mummy representation has evolved over time and how monsters are made, by using a combiantion of monster theory and Edward Saids orientalism. The study has shown that the evolution of mummies has changed during the century and mummies became more monstrous during the second half of the 1800s. The creation of these mummy monsters is a manifestation of thoughts and ideas by the authors, inspired by the society they reside in.
