Sammanfattning: Within the manufacturing industry, optimising resource utilisation is crucial for strengthening competitive advantage. However, the significance of acknowledging organisational knowledge as a valuable resource is often overlooked. This thesis explores the role of knowledge transfer in the manufacturing industry and analyses how the manufacturing industry can improve overall performance by leveraging the knowledge of its employees. The thesis aims to identify key challenges with managing knowledge transfer faced by manufacturing companies. It also examines how a manufacturing company effectively differentiate expertise and experience to capture and leverage the full range of human potential. Additionally it explores the contribution of knowledge transfer to enhanced production performance. This research employed a two-part methodology. Firstly, a comprehensive literature review critically analysed theories and scientific research on human potential as a resource in the manufacturing industry. Secondly, an empirical study was conducted at Höganäs, a large manufacturing company, using interviews with key stakeholders at various organisational levels. This two-part approach provided valuable insights into the practical application of knowledge transfer for effective utilisation of human potential. Höganäs acknowledges the significance of continuous learning and development for maintaining market dominance, but faces challenges in internal knowledge transfer. Challenges arise from geographical separation of value-creating processes and communication issues caused by shift patterns. Overcoming these challenges requires embedding knowledge transfer in the organisational mindset, establishing continuous and systematic communication, and providing clear incentives. Furthermore, ensuring consistent levels of knowledge among operators is essential. Incentives and involvement of employees in training processes and decision-making can enhance engagement and address issues of confusion and mistrust. Effective knowledge transfer contributes to enhanced production performances by leveraging the diverse skills and knowledge within the organisation. Understanding different maturity phases and leveraging existing knowledge assets are crucial for ongoing success. By fostering a culture of continuous learning and development, a manufacturing company can improve productivity and gain a competitive advantage by recognising human potential as a fundamental asset.
