Sammanfattning: This study aims to examine in which way the Swedish security discourse has been portrayed in Swedish media during a nearby conflict at two separate time periods, Prague spring 1968 and the war in Ukraine 2022. The purpose is to find out how the security discourse in the media reporting has changed between these events. Through a qualitative content analysis as a method, news articles that have been published for a week from the time the respective invasion has taken place have been treated to answer the question. The theoretical framework consists of the concept of security and how it can be treated in different ways. This is supplemented by the theory of framing which is about how the media in its way of shaping its content affects the public and thus also politics. The articles and theories have been treated on the basis of the categories threat, the meaning for Sweden and other actors, to achieve the purpose. The result shows that the threatening actor is portrayed in a similar way in both events. However, the 2022 reporting has adopted a broader interpretation of threats and security. Furthermore, the significance of the invasion for Sweden has increased in 2022, and a Swedish connection to Europe and the EU is also emerging, together with a greater expectation of collective security.
