Sammanfattning: The purpose of this study is to investigate how interculturality is used in Peruvian upper secondary schools by applying a thematic analysis on semi-structured interviews. Furthermore, the study focuses on how the notion of interculturality is perceived among the teachers, how they put interculturality into practice and, whether they consider interculturality to be important in an educational setting.  The theoretical background offers a brief history of interculturality in Peru, especially focusing on education and presents a few examples of how, according to earlier studies, there have been intents to include interculturality during the last 50 years. Lastly, the background presents documents governing the Peruvian educational system, to highlight some examples of the official rhetoric regarding interculturality in education.       The analysis of the transcribed interviews concludes that the teachers’ perception of interculturality is influenced by the official rhetoric in the governing documents. It also concludes that, among other methods, it is common to use literature connected to other cultures as a tool to work with interculturality in the classroom. Finally, the analysis of the empiric material concludes that, although the teachers all agree on the relevance of interculturality in education, the lack of economic resources in schools and inadequate teacher training regarding interculturality hold them back from accomplishing the intercultural education the way that they would wish.
