Sammanfattning: ABSTRACT Background: Pressure ulcer is described as a local injury to the skin and/or underlying tissue caused by pressure. Up to 91% of all pressure ulcers are considered avoidable. Previous research shows that patients have experiences that pressure sores lead to an extreme dominant pain that makes them feel helpless, despondent and experience suffering. Nurses should be able to prevent patients from suffering from healthcare injury by following rules and working towards patient safety. Aim: The aim was to create an overview of nurses' experiences of pressure ulcer prevention work in nursing care. Method: The method that was used was a literature review based on Friberg. The method is used to create a descriptive overview of an area. Through article searches and analysis of both qualitative and quantitative studies, a result was created based on nurses' experiences. Results: The result revealed three themes that were important for pressure ulcer prevention: Organizational aspects, the importance of communication and the importance of competence. Conclusions: Promoting pressure ulcer prevention may require counteracting organizational aspects, requiring nurses to communicate well and keeping skills up to date.
