Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Högskolan i Halmstad/Akademin för hälsa och välfärd

Sammanfattning: Background: Nurses provide care to prisoners in prisons with health issues such as drug addiction, infectious diseases, and mental health problems that can be grouped on an international level. Purpose: To illuminate nurses experiences of nursing in prisons. Method: A literature review based on eight scientific articles using both qualitative and quantitative methods. The analysis of the resulting articles was content-analytical. Three main themes and four subthemes were formed from the data units analyzed in the resulting articles. Results: Three main themes were identified: The impact of the work environment on nursing, experiences of job satisfaction, and experiences of ethical dilemmas. The first main theme showed how relationships with colleagues, stress, workload and prioritizing safety over care affected nurses work in nursing. The second main theme demonstrated how ethical dilemmas arose in the conflict between healthcare and the culture of defense. The third main theme demonstrated the obstacles to therapeutic relationships. Conclusion: A better understanding of nurses' experiences and limitations in their work within prison healthcare could contribute to strategies and guidelines that improve the nurses working environment and the care provided to prisoners.
