Sammanfattning: The use of Spanish words “ispanismi” in the Italian territory has been an active phenomenon for centuries. The geographical proximity between Spain and Italy, political-commercial and cultural relations throughout history as well as the similarity of the two languages have favoured the linguistic exchange between these two cultures. The aim of this thesis is to investigate these relations, when and how they occurred. It has been observed in this work that social-political-cultural relations between Italy and Spain initiated in the thirteenth century have enriched the Italian vocabulary as well as some of its dialects (Neapolitan, Sardinian). Many Spanish loan words and calques used in the past continue to be used today in various areas of Italian vocabulary.
