Sammanfattning: Purpose: The overall purpose of this study is to investigate the perceived effectiveness of technology-enhanced self-directed learning (TESDL) in the workplace context, with a specific focus on the IT industry (company X in Nigeria). The study aims to assess the perception of employees on the motivating factors, barriers, environment, and technological tools utilized for TESDL. Theory: Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) and Self-Determination Theory (SDT) Method: This study employed a qualitative research method, and thematic analysis was chosen as the method for data analysis. Results: The study revealed that employees in the IT industry, as part of this study, were motivated to engage in TESDL through intrinsic factors (conviction and trendiness, competence and future career, personal growth and professional development, work challenges) and extrinsic factors (employers’ encouragement and availability of resources and tools). However, the study found that employees face time management challenges, difficulty in keeping up with rapidly changing technological advancements, and environmental factors (unreliable internet connectivity and power outages). The study also found that employees actively participate in technology-enhanced self-directed learning within their workplaces. Participants in this study use different tools to engage in TESDL, such as online learning platforms, video-based learning platforms, online communities, and groups for learning, and social networking tools."
