Sammanfattning: The topic that the study will highlight is translanguaging. The purpose is to investigate how teachers' perceptions of translanguage influence the design of the lessons for multilingual students in the subject of Swedish. The questions that will be answered are the following: -       What characterizes teachers' perceptions of the importance of translanguage for the language development of multilingual students? -       In what ways is the lessons of Swedish education for multilingual students affected by these perceptions? -       According to the teachers, what are the challenges and opportunities with translanguage in Swedish teaching? The theory underlying the study is learning through the socio-cultural perspective where language is seen as a tool and a prerequisite for communication. Data and material have been collected through qualitative semi-structured interviews with working Swedish teachers in grades 4–6. The results show that there are perceptions among teachers that show that the design of Swedish teaching is affected. Most teachers were positive about using translanguage to benefit the language development of their multilingual students. However, obstacles were created in the teaching of Swedish based on perceptions such as that teachers do not understand the students when they speak their first language that the teachers do not master or that they do not have sufficient knowledge of how translanguaging is used in the classroom. Whether they get access to translanguage or not depends on the teachers' perceptions.
