Sammanfattning:  An important step to create an effective tool circuit is to make sure that every individual tool is traceable. Whiteout traceability it is difficult to keep track on the amount of tools in the circuit, resulting in over-dimensioned inventories. It is also challenging to maintain a first in, first out flow (FIFO), when the flow of cutters is undefined. To achieve traceability in a circuit flow a traceability system is paramount, and to enable insertion of such a system it is important to find out the elements that takes to found the system.   The purpose of this report is to deliver a framework for traceability of circuit tools, in this case for hobs and shaper cutters, that is suitable for the automotive industry. This is to solve the problem of what is believed to be over-dimensioned inventories and the risk of having multiple tools discarded at the same time due to equal wear level, which can occur when there is no first in, first out-flow (FIFO) strategy in place. To solve this challenge, the following research questions are posed:  - What are the challenges when implementing traceability for cutting tools? - What are the possibilities with traceability of cutting tools? - How can a framework for traceability be formulated? The research questions were answered via a case study with a qualitative approach. Initially, a pilot study was carried out at the case company to clarify the problems and identify what need to be solved by a traceability system. Then a benchmarking study was conducted with external companies, using semi-structured interviews.   The pilot study, benchmarking study, and theoretical analysis resulted in a framework to support the use of a potential traceability system. Some important parts that a traceability system should be able to handle is RFID technique, tool history data and storage balance.
