Sammanfattning: Cities all throughout the globe try to balance a rising population with sustainability. Urban growth is essential for overall development, according to the sustainable development goals. The contradiction between prioritising growth and making sure residents' demands are met presents a challenge to urban planners. "Framtidsplan 2050," the Halmstad municipality's urban planning manual, conveys the sustainability of social, ecological, and economic systems. This research is used to analyse the conflicts and sustainability definitions found in the plan and how they have affected its impact. The thesis shows that it is challenging to get consensus on a definition of sustainability and that there is a probability that the three sustainability criteria would clash at some point throughout the planning process. Furthermore, it appears that conflicts over competing interests, such as the maintenance of open green spaces, traffic-related problems, and development projects, are usually present in disagreements. Recognising and resolving such conflicts is essential to ensuring sustainable urban development. The outcome demonstrates that Halmstad municipality makes every effort to resolve disputes regarding social, economic, and ecological sustainability in a way that is highly sustainable and prioritises an integrated solution. Additionally, efforts to adapt to the climate are essential to the city's growth, which aligns with vigorous efforts to promote sustainable development.
